Soumyam is one of the very few yoga schools in India and Australia to teach Hatha Yoga in its original form. The practices we offer come from a deep yogic tradition which boasts a holistic understanding of the physical body as well as more subtle aspects of the human system. These practices are offered in utmost purity with an emphasis on safety and precision. Trained in an intensive 21-week full-time program at the Isha Yoga Center in India, we are uniquely qualified to offer authentic and powerful yogic practices of different intensity, which bring enhanced energy, mental clarity, and inner balance to the human system. Each year we travel to the yoga center to further our teaching.
What is Hatha Yoga?
Hatha Yoga stems from a deep understanding of the mechanics of the body, and uses yogic postures, or yogasanas, to enable the system to sustain higher dimensions of energy. Soumya is a fully trained teacher in classical hatha yoga. I have attended two of her yoga workshops, Bhuta Shuddi and Angamardana. She teaches yoga in a traditional manner, practices learned from one workshop lasts a lifetime. I have been practicing Bhuta shuddi for over a month, and it’s hard to comprehend a 10-minute practice every day can have such a profound calming effect. I can not Soumya enough for offering traditional yoga in Canberra.
